Read all FAQ related to MEP TRAINING
1. Wat is MEP?
MEP stands for Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing. It is a group of services given to a building after civil construction for human comfort and safety. It includes HVAC, Lighting system, Electrical systems, Plumbing systems and Fire fighting system.
2. What is HVAC?
HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. Its goal is to provide thermal comfort and acceptable indoor air quality. It conditions the air by controlling the air temperature, humidity, air motion, purity and odor.
3. What is ESD?
ESD stands for Electrical System Design. It deals with the designing of electrical wiring layout and panel board. It also includes the lighting system and single line diagrams.
4. What is refrigeration?
Refrigeration is the process of removing heat from any substance resulting in lowering its temperature and then preserving it at that temperature.
5. What is air conditioning?
It is the process of removing heat from an enclosed space and discarding this heat at the place where it is unobjectionable.
6. Difference between heat and temperature?
Heat is a form of energy that can be transformed from one object to another.
Temperature is the measure of the ability of a substance to transfer heat energy to another physical system.
7. What is centralized air conditioning system?
A centralized air condition system serves multiple spaces using one common system. In this system duct serve as air tunnels to the various spaces inside your home.
8. Usage of ducting System
The duct system is designed to supply rooms with air that is conditioned that is, heated or cooled by the HVAC equipment and to circulate or return the volume of air back to the HVAC equipment.
9. Light Scheme designing
Within each room, a good lighting scheme is layered so as to provide both practical functionality and decorative value. There are three main lighting types you can use to create this:
Ambient light: This mimics natural daylight and can be created with pendants, lamps and wall lights for soft pools of light and a relaxed atmosphere.
Task light: This is a focused light, whether in the form of bright ceiling downlights, under-unit kitchen lighting or a desk or reading lamp.
Accent light: Created with spotlights, downlights and uplights, among other styles of lighting, this is especially used to highlight design features such as alcoves or artwork.
10. Low voltage systems in MEP
- fire alarms
- smoke detectors
- heat detectors
- public announcement systems
- sign lights
11. Components in Panels
- fuses
- meters
- isolators
- ELCB/RCCB
- MCBs
- Neutral links
12. Sizing of cables
Sizing of cables as per the standers are very important in electrical system design. The sizes and insulators of cables and busbars should be as per the standard for the safety purposes and it is calculated by the current flowing through the cable and voltage level of the system.
13. Usage of traps
Trap is a plumbing fitting which provides a liquid seal to prevent the sewage gasses without materially affecting the flow of the sewage
14. What is a Vent System
Vent system is a pipe or pipes installed to provide a flow of air to or from a drainage system or to provide a circulation of air within such system to protect trap seals from back pressure.
15. Difference between drainage and sewage system
All the piping within public or private premises that conveys sewage, rain water and other liquid wastes to a point of disposal is called drainage system.
Liquid containing human waste and/or animal, vegetable or chemical waste and the pipes containing the sewage is called sewage systems.
16. Pump size calculation
Pump power = shaft power * efficiency
Shaft power = Hydraulic power * efficiency
Hydraulic power = Q*H*P*g/1000
Q = flow of water in m/s
H = total head in m
P = density of water in kg/m3
g = acceleration due to gravity = 9.81m/s2
